Xia Ning Chang is the 2nd wife of Yang Kai. As a disciple of High Heaven Pavilion while the former is simply a Trial Disciple, Xia Ning Chang develops feelings for Yang Kai after witnessing his refusal to give up on the path of Martial Dao. After numerous events, she becomes one of his lovers, and faithfully accompanies him to all of the higher worlds he travels to.

While Xia Ning Chang's appearance doesn't come across as flattering as Shan Qing Luo's, or cold like Su Yan's, her beauty is often praised as being otherworldly. This quality is said to give people a sense of inferiority when comparing themselves to her, even when her visage is hidden behind a veil.

Despite her shyness, Xia Ning Chang is extremely gifted and talented in her own right, especially as an Alchemist. Possessing the legendary Sacred Spirit Medicine Body, Xia Ning Chang is unparalleled in regards to her natural talent for Alchemy. This heaven-defying physique not only allows her to practice Alchemy with virtually no limits but also enables her to rapidly increase her cultivation simply by Pill Refining. She is currently an Open Heaven Grade Alchemist.
Past[]
Xia Ning Chang was either lost or abandoned by her parents in the past. While still recovering from his escape from the Demon Commander Zhang Yuan of the Demon Land of Tong Xuan Realm, Meng Wu Ya happens to fortuitously discover her innate talents while traveling the world. He then proceeds to take her on as his only disciple and grows to think of her as his own daughter. She is eventually brought to High Heaven Pavilion, where Meng Wu Ya serves as its Treasurer after becoming friends with its Sect Master.

High Heaven Pavillion[]
Xia Ning Chang starts off as a mysterious veiled female who frequently spies on Yang Kai during the start of his cultivation life. She often secretly cheers him on with admiration for his unyielding personality. One day, Xia Ning Chang would even help to save Yang Kai’s life when he is ambushed by enemies. Over time, Xia Ning Chang develops obvious feelings for Yang Kai, but is too shy to express them openly. When High Heaven Pavilion is destroyed, Xia Ning Chang travels elsewhere with her Master.
Xia Ning Chang again meets Yang Kai in Medicine King Valley, where she becomes a temporary and valued disciple of Xiao Fu Sheng. Naturally impressed by Xia Ning Chang’s Alchemy ability, Xiao Fu Sheng gains new inspiration for his own Alchemic practice.
Inheritance War[]
During the Inheritance War, Xia Ning Chang works in Yang Kai's mansion as its lead Alchemist. Yang Kai passes on to her the secrets of the True Alchemic Way he obtained from the Forbidden Area of Medicine King Valley. Xia Ning Chang subsequently creates many of the pills that allow Yang Kai's allies to rapidly progress on the path of cultivation, drawing the greedy eyes of the Eight Great Families. When Yang Bai self-destructs at the end of the Inheritance War, Xia Ning Chang, Meng Wu Ya, and Su Yan are separated from Yang Kai due the collapse of the Void Corridor the former was trying to use in order to reach Tong Xuan Realm.
Tong Xuan Realm[]
Xia Ning Chang spends years traveling Tong Xuan Realm with Meng Wu Ya. During this time, she visits both Soaring Heaven Sect and Ice Sect, and even wins an Alchemy contest against the disciple of the Old Man of Heaven's Keep. Eventually, Xia Ning Chang visits Nine Heavens Holy Land with Meng Wu Ya before traveling with him in order to investigate a mysterious Void Corridor. Here, Meng Wu Ya ends up trapped on a column with the word "TONG XUAN" etched across it. Having no way to affect the situation, Xia Ning Chang is helpless to stop the Spirit Array or rescue Meng Wu Ya. Fortunately, Yang Kai eventually appears and, after meeting with a clone of the Great Demon God, rescues them by destroying the Spirit Array.
Yang Kai heals Meng Wu Ya before taking him along with Xia Ning Chang back to Nine Heavens Holy Land, where he is now its Holy Master. Xia Ning Chang subsequently helps Yang Kai to develop Nine Heavens Holy Land into a more prominent existence than ever as the leader of the many Alchemist Experts, who subsequently decide to stay there in order to witness and learn from from the former's expertise. After the war with the Bone Race, Xia Ning Chang and Yang Kai have sex for the first time[6], and officially become lovers with the implicit blessing of Meng Wu Ya. Shortly after this, Yang Kai departs from Tong Xuan Realm for the Starry Sky in order to both explore its mysteries and search for Su Yan.
Star Master of Tong Xuan Realm[]
Yang Kai eventually returns to Tong Xuan Realm with an Origin King Grade Starship.[7] Upon arriving, he deduces that Tong Xuan is very old compared to other Cultivation Stars he has seen within the Starry Sky. In Nine Heavens Holy Land, Yang Kai is shocked when he finds a strange Grey Qi on Xia Ning Chang, who has somehow reached the 2nd Order Saint King Realm. This in itself is extremely odd, because the relatively thin World Energy of Tong Xuan Realm should only be enough for cultivators to reach the 3rd Order Saint Realm. Xia Ning Chang then explains that she acquired the Grey Qi in a cave while exploring the world before somehow stumbling upon the Grey Qi after hearing something call for her. Yang Kai and Xia Ning Chang then head to this cave, where, after some exploration, they end up finding many skeletons.
After a more thorough investigation, Yang Kai realizes that the cave leads to the Star Source of Tong Xuan Realm, and that the skeletons belong to former people the Star Source chose in an attempt to preserve its life. Xia Ning Chang broke through to the 2nd Order Saint King Realm because she was the latest person the Star Source chose for this purpose. However, this cultivation level isn't enough to maintain the Star Source's power, and it is detrimental to her life. Seeing opportunity, Yang Kai helps Xia Ning Chang become the Star Master of Tong Xuan Realm through the use of the Star Source Refining Technique he acquired in Emperor Garden. Xia Ning Chang's cultivation level then rises, and she again becomes healthy.[3] Yang Kai then takes her along with him to their original world to look for Shan Qing Luo before traveling to Emperor Monster.
Monster Emperor Star[]
Yang Kai and Xia Ning Chang stay in an inn within the territory of Chi Yue, the most tolerant and one of the strongest Tribal Lords on Monster Emperor Star.[8] While Yang Kai gets into a fight, Xia Ning Chang draws a ton of attention by refining a Medicine Pill with Pill Clouds after receiving the sentiments of Alchemy that Yang Kai had passed on to her earlier. This ends up earning her a VIP status in Chi Yue's Royal City. When Chi Yue makes a deal with Yang Kai to bring back an Origin Essence Crystal from the Blood Prison Trial on Green Mountains Star, she intends to keep Xia Ning Chang with her as leverage. However, Yang Kai fools her by putting Xia Ning Chang in his Sealed World Bead, taking her with him as he leaves for the Trial with Shan Qing Luo.
Shadowed Star[]
Xia Ning Chang remains on Shadowed Star for the rest of Yang Kai's time in the Star Field. She notably refines some pills to help the cultivation of Gui Zu so that he can make a breakthrough to the 3rd Order Origin King Realm. In the year before Yang Kai travels to Star Boundary, she, Su Yan, Shan Qing Luo, and Xue Yue accompany him as they travel around the Star Field with no worries.
Yang Kai Returns[]
When Yang Kai returns to the Star Fields after chasing Wu Kuang to Ancestor Territory, he finds that Heng Luo Star Field is under attack by the Underworld Sect of Great Desolate Star Territory. Xia Ning Chang had taken a stand with Xue Yue and others on Tong Xuan Realm in order to protect it as its 3rd Order Origin King Realm Star Master, and initially had some success. However, she was heavily incapacitated due to the Underworld Sect's use of a Spirit Array that heavily damaged the Cultivation Star's condition. When Yang Kai arrives, he completely wipes out the Underworld Sect, and sets up his own giant Spirit Array in order to increase Tong Xuan's World Energy and help Xia Ning Chang to recover. While this does help Tong Xuan Realm and Xia Ning Chang, it doesn't completely solve its problems. Inspired, Yang Kai becomes the Star Field Master of Heng Luo Star Field and finally manages to rejuvenate Tong Xuan Realm, healing Xia Ning Chang completely.[9]
Star Boundary[]
Upon later arriving in Star Boundary, Xia Ning Chang accompanies Yang Kai to High Heaven Palace's Spirit Medicine Peak, where Ji Ying works as its Chief Alchemy Expert. Yang Kai recommends Xia Ning Chang as a disciple to Ji Ying, who is initially skeptical of her ability. However, after seeing Xia Ning Chang refine a pill, Ji Ying feels like he isn't even qualified to teach her, and promises Yang Kai to recommend her to his master, the Wondrous Pill Great Emperor.[10] When the Wondrous Pill Great Emperor sees Xia Ning Chang's abilities, he is blown away, and regrets that he very publicly stated he would never take in another disciple. Therefore, Xia Ning Chang becomes a disciple of Ji Ying in name only, and is really the new closed-door disciple of the Wondrous Pill Great Emperor. During the Demon War, She serves a crucial role as an Alchemist in High Heaven Palace, which acts as a major secret base of operations for Star Boundary while Yang Kai is in Demon Realm.
One day, when Xia Ning Chang is in the final stages of refining a pill, she suddenly senses Yang Kai has returned, and the pill is ruined. After apologizing to a highly irritated Ji Ying, Xia Ning Chang, Zhu Qing, Su Yan, Xue Yue, and Shan Qing Luo quickly join up in order to greet Yang Kai together. Later, after Yang Kai is made a Army Commander, he proceeds to engage in intercourse with these 5 wives on one of the Spirit Peaks of High Heaven Palace for several days. Later, Xia Ning Chang shirks her Alchemy duties to march in her husband's army so that she can ease his burden in the war, even if only just a little.
Void Great Emperor[]
During the Final Battle of Star Boundary, Xia Ning Chang, now an Emperor, is eventually targeted by a Shadow Demon Half-Saint while trying to defend High Heaven Palace alongside Su Yan, Xue Yue, and Shan Qing Luo.[11] When things take a turn for the worst, the familiar figure of Yang Kai suddenly appears before Xia Ning Chang as the Shadow Demon flees in terror. Seeing that Xia Ning Chang has been slightly injured, Yang Kai proceeds to kill the fleeing Shadow Demon Half-Saint in less than 3 breaths, confirming his ascension as the Void Great Emperor.[12]
However, Xia Ning Chang later watches in horror as a devastating attack of Mo Sheng's is taken into the Void by Yang Kai in order to prevent the destruction of Star Boundary. Despite the horrifying explosion that ensues, Xia Ning Chang holds on to the hope that Yang Kai somehow survived it. Fortunately, Yang Kai eventually returns from the Void stronger than ever, and his momentum leads to both the defeat of Mo Sheng and the end of the Demon War.
After the war, Yang Kai spends a lot of time with Xia Ning Chang, Su Yan, Shan Qing Luo, Xue Yue, Zhu Qing, and Yu Ru Meng before closing up to start refining the Immortal Tree into his Dao Seal. About 50 years later, Yang Kai departs for the Outer Universe in search of a World Tree in order to save the dying post-war Star Boundary.[13]
Void Land[]
After Yang Kai plants the World Tree in Star Boundary, Xia Ning Chang is involved in intercourse between Yang Kai and all of his wives, except Zhu Qing, in which they are thoroughly worn out.[14] Xia Ning Chang would then follow along with the rest of Yang Kai's wives to Void Land.[15] Later, Xia Ning Chang, as a straight promote 6th Rank Open Heaven Realm cultivator, becomes an elite disciple of an 8th Rank Ancestor of Divine Medicine Heaven, the Purple Jade Divine Monarch, in order to form a marriage alliance between the former and Void Land. This protects Void Land while he goes off to fight on Ink Battlefield. Yang Kai then officially marries Xia Ning Chang, Ji Yao, Xue Yue, Yu Ru Meng, Qu Hua Chang and Tao Ling Wan, and consummates the marriage with each one of them individually over the course of the ceremony. Later, Xia Ning Chang sends a letter Yang Kai during his time on Ink Battlefield along with the rest of Yang Kai's wives that aren't in Ancestral Land.
Barren Territory[]
Xia Ning Chang and the other wives, all having reached 7th Rank Open Heaven Realm or its equivalent, would be ordered by the 36 Cave Heavens and 72 Paradises to help, along with all the other 2nd Class Influences, in keeping the Ink Clan from breaking through the Barren Territory into the 3,000 Worlds. Placed under the protection of Yin-Yang Heaven's Smiles Old Ancestor, Yang Kai's wives would prove to be capable of collectively contending with a Territory Lord. Eventually, Su Yan gets an induction with Yang Kai through her Yin-Yang Joyous Unification Art, and the wives are ecstatic to learn he is still alive. Yu Ru Meng, as a de-facto leader among the wives, orders them all to immediately head towards him. However, before they could meet with him again, Yang Kai returned to Ink Battlefield in order to seal the gate between No-Return Pass and the Barren Territory.[16]
Supporting the War Effort[]
Due to her outstanding ability in Alchemy, Xia Ning Chang would be the only one of Yang Kai's wives to remain in Star Boundary during the 3,000 Worlds War against the Ink Clan.[17] She, along with the other precious Alchemy Experts, would likewise refine many Expelling Ink Pills that would become absolutely essential to the war effort as the Light of Purification became scarce. However, Xia Ning Chang eventually sees Yang Kai again after the latter finally returns to Star Boundary from more than 1,000 years of separation.[18]
